A DAMASCUS TURQUOISE GLAZED POTTERY JAR
Syria, 14th century
Of baluster form with sloping neck and slightly everted mouth, the body painted under the glaze with a broad band of flowering leafy vine occupied by occasional black birds, a band of fish below and imitation inscription reserved on black around the shoulder, the neck with floral motifs alternating with rosettes, futher stylised inscription around the mouth, part of mouth made up, otherwise intact, light surface iridescence
