A SAFAVID TINNED COPPER BOWL (TAS)
Iran, early 17th century
Of rounded form on short foot, the exterior engraved with a band of radiating cusped shaped panels enclosing arabesques and floral sprays, the rim with a band of elegant nasta'liq inscriptions against a scrolling vine ground, a band of lozenges above and below, the interior plain, short inscription under foot, surface rubbed, little tin remaining
10½in. (27.2cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The inscription contains a call to God to bless The Fourteen Innocents with the addition of numerous extra attributes given to Mehdi, the twelfth Imam.
