A SYRIAN BLUE, BLACK AND WHITE POTTERY CUP
Probably Damascus, 14th century
With flat base and slight tapering cylindrical sides everted at the rim to the flaring mouth, a simple large handle at one side, the white ground of the sides painted under the glaze with alternating black ducks and blue leaf-motifs, various old collection labels and numbers on underside, some restoration to rim, handle rejoined, areas of iridescence
7 3/8in. (18.7cm.) diam.
