A HISPANO-MORESQUE LUSTRE CHARGER
Manises, Valencia, last third 15th century
The shallow dish with central raised omphalos with a shield containing the central figure of a lion rampant surrounded by concentric bands of floral meander and simple dot pattern, the everted rim with moulded wave pattern similarly painted with floral designs and dot pattern, the exterior with leafy sprays, intact, rim drilled, slight surface abrasion

Lot Essay

A very similar dish bears the arms of King Ferrante I of Naples who reigned 1458-1494 (Caviró, Balbina Martínez: Cerámica Hispanomusulmana, Andalusí y Mudéjar, Madrid, 1991, pl.189, p.186).
