Shiraz, second half 16th century
Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled cream paper, 295ff. written in black nasta'liq horizontally and with further text written diagonally around the main text block, titles in white on illuminated panels, each folio with copious illumination, with thirty five finely executed small miniatures contained within the margins, catch phrases in black, opening illuminated folio, facing page lacking, incomplete, remargined, in 19th century lacquer binding, modern black box cover

Lot Essay

This is a very decorative manuscript, the type of work produced in Shiraz in the third quarter of the 16th century. Although the colophon is missing, the calligraphy is clearly the work of an accomplished hand. The charming small miniatures are also of very high quality.
