TWO IZNIK POTTERY DISHES
Ottoman Turkey, circa 1620-30
Each with sloping rim on short foot, the white interior of one with an open arrangement of interlaced peony and tulip flowers in an S-motif and scrolling border, the exterior plain, rim fritted, crack, the other with a dense arrangement of floral sprays overlaid by a scrolling hyacinth, in a border of reserved cusped panels on a green ground, the exterior with simple alternating green and blue motifs, the underside of the foot glazed bright green, rim chips, cracks

Lot Essay

While coloured slips are occasionally encountered used on the underside of a 16th century Iznik dish, it is extremely rare indeed to find the green glazed foot seen on the later second dish in this lot.
