Quinta do Vesivio--Vintage 1994
One of the most famous Quintas in the Douro, for generations owned by the Ferreira family, the biggest and wealthiest land owners in the area in the Nineteenth Century, and sold not very long ago to the Symington family who have shrewdly seized on its potential and have been producing superlative wines. The vineyard is planted with 40 Touriga Francesa, 30 Tinta Barroca, 20 Touriga Nacional and 10 other varieties. Its style is totally different to the other Symington brands, the '94 having a delicious touch of uplifting citrus/lime fruit aromas and distinctive flavour. When last tasted (May 2002) it still looked opaque, had an extraordinary character and flavour, and great potential. MB
