A SUPERB RANGE OF VINTAGE FROM THE INDIVIDUAL "LODGES" OF THE TAYLOR PARTNERSHIP
The recently named "Taylor Partnership" is owned by three long-established port families, the Robertsons, the Bowers and Guimaraens, and comprises the following brands Taylor, Fonseca, the recently acquired Croft and Delaforce, and Taylor's flagship Quinta de Vargellas, all represented in this sale.
Brief vintage notes: 1970, outstanding and drinking perfectly now; 1975 declared by 17 major port shippers, lighter style and all fully mature; 1977 a "serious", well regarded an widely declared vintage, all drinking well now; 1980 a good, very approachable and under-valued vintage, perfectly mature; 1985 a very attractive, vibrant and widely declared vintage, stylish, agreeable now, will keep; 1994 excellent, widely declared, being drunk now but, in my opinion, pre-maturely; 1995 a very good year, but not declared owing to its proximity to the 1994. Some excellent single-quinta wines including Vargellas; 1997 top class. Needs time. M.B.
Taylor--Vintage 1985
Taylors celebrated their tercenternary in 1992 and can justifiably claim to be the oldest established of all the major port houses. Sometimes known as the "Latour" of Port, the wine tends to be deeply coloured, full-bodied with an inimitable "backbone", still firm but fragrant, sweet, and drinking well but time in hand. M.B.
