FROM THE CELLARS OF THE DOMAINE ARMAND ROUSSEAU
I must quote my colleague, Anthony Hanson: "this is one of Burgundy's great traditional domaines and Charles Rousseau one of the Côte's best-loved, most courteous growers". This estate consists of 14 hectares of the greatest and most valuable holdings including Chambertin, Clos de Béze as well as Chambertin itself, Clos des Ruchottes (Monopole), Mazis-Chambertin, Clos Saint Jacques, Charmes, Mazy and Mazoyéres-Chambertin. Anthony and I were very kindly received with very short notice one Saturday afternoon in October 2001 tasting his 2000's in cask and being treated to some older vintages in his office. MB
Chambertin Grand Cru--Vintage 1983
Côte de Nuits. Domaine-bottled: Armand Rousseau
Two notes in the mid 1990's: ripe, sweet, delicious flavour at eleven years of age, and the following year at a Rousseau tasting in Florida: Fully mature appearance; sweet, subtle, complex bouquet; a wine of considerable power and length, with very good flavour, tannin and acidity. March 1995, M.B.
