Vintage note: 1947, the greatest immediate post-war vintage throughout Italy. Understandably, few remain. 1968, equally rare was more variable but particularly successful in Tuscany. 1978 was unquestionably the most successful all-round vintage of the decade. 1988, excellent but small production, the smallest crop in Tuscany for 25 years but the bottles in this lot will be drinking perfectly.
1997, the sort of vintage to gladden Italian hearts, some producers going as far as to say it is the best of the 20th Century. Without doubt superb wines with a great future. M.B.
