A WELL-DETAILED WOOD AND BONE MODEL OF A FRENCH 74-GUN FRIGATE OF 1750
modelled by D.C. Peers with bound masts, yards with stun's'l booms, standing and running rigging with bone blocks, carved figurehead of a man in a coat with outstretched arms, head rails, catheads, bone anchors with bound wooden stocks, bitts, belaying rails and pins, gratings, stove pipe, belfry, twelve cannon in stepped bone carriages, well-deck with ship's boat stowed over, hammock racks, companionways, poop deck with front rail, deck lights, and other details. The planked and pinned hull with ebony wales, carved stern and quarter galleries, cannon ports with cannon, the lower deck retractable, chain plates and deadeyes and rudder, is copper sheathed below the water line and mounted on a cradle and pin stand rigged from the hawse pipes and catheads to a display base with wood-capped bone rail and bun feet. Overall measurements -- 26 x 34in. (66 x 86.5cm.)
