Lot Essay

Owned, built and initially commanded by A. Roy of Maitland, Nova Scotia, the Esther Roy was a wooden full-rigged ship launched in 1877. British registered at 1,569 tons gross (1,534 net), she measured 219 feet in length with a 41 foot beam and mostly worked the North Atlantic trade carrying timber.
