Thomas Thornycroft (d.1885) is best known for his large bronze group of Boadicea, which took 15 years to model, and was erected posthumously in 1902. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1836 and 1874, and exhibited at the British Institution until 1860.

Another cast of the present model sold Sotheby's London, 30 March 1990, lot 72 (£12,000).
