AN ELAMITE BRONZE MACE HEAD
EARLY 2ND MILLENNIUM B.C.
The long cylindrical shaft divided with encircling hatched relief cords, the upper section with alternating stylized snakes and vertical rows of three prominent spikes, repaired, 5 7/8 in. (15 cm.) high; a Mesopotamian-Elamite cylindrical bronze mace head with narrow flanged base, the upper section divided into six vertical panels decorated with alternating bosses and cable pattern, bordered by encircling relief bands, 7 7/8 in. (20 cm.) high; another similar, with three panels of lozenges in a herringbone pattern divided by sets of parallel ridges, 6¾ in. (17 cm.) high, both late 3rd millennium B.C.; and a Luristan bronze mace head with a swollen upper body decorated with three encircling rows of spikes, the relief bands above and below with incised hatching, late 2nd/early 1st millennium B.C., 4 5/8 in.
