A RARE AMBER VASE AND COVER
QING DYNASTY, 18TH CENTURY

Of flattened baluster shape, finely carved from a single piece of amber with two birds on a flowering prunus branch on one side, and on the reverse, with a monkey climbing up a peach tree and another seated beneath, the scenes divided on the sides by bamboo, between ruyi bands and a further lotus scroll at the shoulder flanked by a pair of loop handles suspending loose rings, the domed cover surmounted by a coiled dragon finial (two rim chips restuck)
