A DOUCAI PHOENIX DISH
Underglaze blue Yongzheng six-character mark within a double circle and of the period (1723-35)
With shallow rounded sides rising to a flaring rim, the interior painted and enamelled with three phoenixes around a lotus flower, the exterior with phoenixes alternating with lotus above a band of 'C'-scrolls around the foot, small rim chip restored
8½ in. (21.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

It is rare to find a Yongzheng dish with this design. Compare a Jiaqing dish with similar design illustrated in He Li, Chinese Ceramics: The New Standard Guide, London, 1996, p.295, no.609.
