An Imari barber's bowl
Late 17th Century
Painted in underglaze-blue, iron-red, green, turquoise, yellow and black enamels and enriched in gilt, with a central panel enclosing flowering peony and berries encircled by a meander of small leaves, the everted rim pierced with two small apertures opposite the cut-out section, decorated with floral cartouches reserved on a diaper-pattern band divided by two pairs of small figures, the reverse with intertwined blossoming branches and pine
