A Korean Shell-Inlaid Marriage Cabinet
Choson Period (Before 1876)
The long rectangular cabinet supported on five bracket feet, the top and sides of black lacquer inlaid in shell with interrupted keyfret grounds within borders of Greek key patterns around roundels of auspicious characters, the four sliding detachable doors, one with a central lock and the others with a metal boss, similarly inlaid with auspicious motifs and characters, the interior of unlacquered wood with five drawers, a large central recess and smaller recesses to either side, the drawers with metal pulls, the reverse of the doors covered in red paper, one inscribed in English Jane Parker 1876, slight old damage
