A Miniature Kago or Norimono [Palanquin]
Edo Period (Mid-19th Century)
Of standard form with long carrying-pole, sliding side-doors with gauze windows, the centre of the roof lifting on one side only, the exterior of brown lacquer with extensive oxidised silver hirame forming an almost continuous surface in places, decorated with phoenix and plant motifs in gold hiramaki-e and with extensive chased and gilt metal mounts, the walls of the interior painted with Kano-style landscapes in ink on gold paper, the ceiling painted to imitate coffering, each division with a different flower motif in colour, silk brocade cushion, slight old damage
