A PAIR OF BRONZE FIGURES
Signed Miyao, Meiji Period (Late 19th Century)
Patinated in several different colours and with gilding, each comprising a standing samurai figure armed with a tanto [dagger], with hair dressed in a topknot and wearing a robe embroidered respectively with tsuru-mon [stylised crane crests] and ho-o birds, holding aloft and with the mouth upwards a detachable Buddhist temple bell with a copper liner, each on a hardwood stand, its sides decorated with archaic animal and floral motifs, each figure signed on a gilt plaque on the side Miyao tsukuru [made by Miyao]
