Details
[Johannes Kip (1653-1722)]
[Nouveau theatre de la Grande Bretagne. London: Joseph Smith, circa 1727]. Volume II only (of 5), large 2° (529 x 330mm). Mounted on guards throughout, 58 engraved plates only (of 70), all but one double-page. (Lacking title, text and plates numbered 8, 11, 13, 16, 21, 23, 24, 33, 42, 48, 63 and 64, light worming to lower blank margins of plates 54-70.) Contemporary speckled calf gilt (rubbed).
A good selection of plates from this important topographical work: the possible publication date is suggested by the title to the final plate 'Ashurst House 1727'. The subjects of the views include a significant number of houses in Gloucestershire and Kent. Sold as a collection of plates, not subject to return. Cf. Berlin Kat. 2328; cf. Hollstein Kip 11; cf. Lowndes II, p.1277.
