Benjamin Torin, son of Benjamin Torin of Englefield Green and Anne, née West, was a senior officer in the East India Company's service in Madras. In 1789 he was Paymaster at Pallamcottah and the following year Collector of Tinnevelly District. He was also an active businessman in Madras.
