PAGANINI, Nicolò (1782-1840). Autograph letter signed to an unidentifed correspondent ('Cavaliere'), 2 Newman Street, London, 25 April 1833, in Italian, one page, 8vo.
Having been invited to perform at a charity concert at the 'grand teatro' to benefit the 'poveri filarmonici, vedove ed orfanelli', Paganini announces his intention of playing the 'Sonata sulla preghiera di Pietro L'Eremita, e tema con variazioni', 'the whole composed and executed upon a single string', asking the recipient to ensure that the piece is announced, and that Thomas Hammond be informed; and hoping to visit the following day.
Paganini's London concerts of 1833 failed to replicate the success he had enjoyed in 1831. Attendance was poor, and in spite of his appearance at a number of charity concerts, he was portrayed in the English press as a miser.
