Woven in wools and silks, depicting a scene from Les Amusements de la Campagne with an amorous couple with a dog beside a pond, in a wooded landscape with a huntsman in the middleground and ruins in the distance, in a flowered trellis border entwined with flower garlands and with floral corners, areas of reweaving and patching, the blue outer slip to the base lacking

Almost certainly acquired by William Berry, 1st Viscount Camrose (d.1954), and by descent.

Lot Essay

A tapestry with identical subject was sold anonymously at Sotheby's London, 28th April 1978, lot 1, for £1400.
