An 18th-Century German gilt and silvered Augsburg-pattern compass sundial,
signed on the underside Johann Willehrand in Augsburg48, the gilt chapter ring with silvered hour scale and sprung gnomon, with small engraved pointer to read off the folding latitude arc with scale 10°-90°, the horizontal plate with glazed inset silvered compass with blued-iron needle and brass cap, and with scroll-decorated and pierced folding plummet support, the underside engraved with the names and latitudes of fourty-one continental towns and cities, supported on three turned gilt legs -- 2¼in. (5.8cm.) wide
