A Meissen allegorical group of a Vestal Virgin and Cupid
Circa 1880, blue crossed swords mark, Pressnummer 163, incised H.18.
The virgin's hair bound with flowered ribbons, wearing a loose yellow gilt-flowered toga, a beige-lined purple robe over her right shoulder and gilt sandals, Cupid scantily clad with a blue robe slung over his left shoulder, both holding a long garland of pink roses and standing by a flaming oval altar moulded with two ribbon-tied wreaths, the virgin dousing the flame with liquid from a shallow bowl, on a stepped oval plinth edged with gilt lines, the base edged with a band of up-turned gilt leaves divided by gadroons between gilt bands (minute chipping to garland and moulded wreaths on reverse of altar)
