A GREEK BRONZE CORSLET
Circa Late 7th-Early 6th Century B.C.
Consisting of front and rear plates of hammered sheet, of anatomical form, some edges rolled over a wire for strength, ornamented with raised and incised details, including, on the front, at each pectoral, a voluted ketos or sea-dragon with a silver pin in the ear and at the forked tail, its serrated comb, fins and scales finely incised, a palmette above also highlighted with silver pins, and the linea alba marked by a three-branched tendril, each terminating below in a palmette with silver pins, the upper and lower edges of the flaring lower rim with incised bands of tongues, and, on the rear, curving bars at the shoulder blades each terminating above and below in a palmette highlighted with silver pins, the flaring lower rim also with bands of tongues; the upper edges with perforations for attachment
