A GERMAN CLOSE-HELMET
Circa 1515, probably Innsbruck
With rounded fluted one-piece skull rising to a low roped comb pierced with three holes, the back of the skull with a row of lining-rivets and curving in then out, fluted tail of two articulated plates, the lower one with recessed border pierced with a central pair of point-holes, pivoted bevor of one piece, shaped to the chin, and secured to the skull by a spring-catch on the right, pointed visor pivoted at the same points as the bevor and also fitted with spring-catch, formed with stepped vision-slit divided at the centre, above ventilation slits and circular holes on each side, the lower borders with a half-turn throughout, the bevor painted inside with an old inventory number (the skull with minor dents and small holes, and an old repair at the locking-catch)
