An English walnut and marquetry longcase clock
The hood with stepped and moulded cornice above a later fretwork panel, glazed side panels, turned and inset later columns, convex throat mouldings with marquetry inlay to the front, the trunk door with moulded frame and reserves of arabesque marquetry inhabited by figures, lenticle glass with later frame, later lock, with stepped concave mouldings above a later plain plinth, the 12in. square brass dial with cherub mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with sword hilt half hour and cross half quarter hour markers, matted centre with simple ringed winding holes, signed Rich. Baker London, subsidiary silvered seconds ring and date aperture with engraved border, later blued steel hands, the five pillar movement with anchor escapement and inside countwheel strike on bell, later seatboard and built up cheekboards; movement and dial associated to case, circa 1700 -- 85½in. (217.5cm.) high
