A George IV mahogany bracket clock with quarter strike, circa 1830
The lancet case with stepped and moulded pediment and with tracery cornice mouldings, baluster finials to the front angles and top, with ebonised and brass-mounted cluster columns, the sides with brass ring handles above silk-backed arched tracery sound frets, with brass-lined recessed panel to the front applied with a leafy moulding, the base with gadrooned gallery and on ball feet with fluted clasps, the white enamel Roman dial signed PAYNE 163 NEW BOND ST. LONDON, blued steel hands, the five pillar twin chain fusee movement with anchor escapement and shouldered plates, quarter-striking on two bells and with hour strike on single bell, the back plate with repeat signature and pendulum holdfast -- 22¾in. (58cm.) high
