ARMED WITH FAITH, THE NEWLY INAUGURATED PRESIDENT PREPARES TO FACE THE 'LION'S DEN'
A gracious expression of gratitude (apparently to a religious figure, from internal evidence) written just after Reagan's inauguration as president. "Dear Mike, This will be short because there are no words to properly express my heartfelt thanks for your letter and the attached materials. Your generous words made me very proud but humble too. I'll try to be deserving of them. I couldn't live an hour in my 'lion's den' if I didn't believe the Lord was watching over me. My prayer is that I perform the tasks confronting me in such a way that they serve Him & his purposes. I shall treasure your letter as Nancy & I treasure your friendship. She sends her love. Again my deepest gratitude. I'm glad you only waited two weeks. Warmest friendship. Ron."
While they are more numerous than ALSs of Nixon or Carter, Reagan's handwritten letters as President are nevertheless uncommon; since 1975 ABPC records a total of eight examples at auction. The present is a particularly attractive example.
