Two parts in one, 4o (197 x 144 mm). Woodcut printer's device on title, numerous woodcuts of water devices and diagrams in text. (Preliminary text leaf with hole repaired causing some loss of letters.) Contemporary speckled calf.
FIRST EDITION. The first part contains the the earliest attempt towards measuring the volume of steam given off by a given quantity of water. The second part is Porta's preliminary work on curves, which he enlarged in 1610. VERY RARE. BM/STC 17th-Century Italian II:699 (imperfect copy, lacks title).
