A Four-Case Lacquer Inro**
Edo period (19th century), with signature Toyo and with red lacquer kakihan (cursive monogram)
The inro decorated with a two warriors in combat, one mounted with a drawn sword, the other on foot holding a war fan, the robes and armor lacquered in gold, silver, red and black takamaki-e and hiramaki-e with highlights of togidashi, kirigane and aogai, the campaign curtain lacquered in gold and silver hiramaki-e and takamaki-e and the surrounding hills and stream in hiramaki-e, takamaki-e and kirigane, battle standards in the distance rendered in togidashi; fitted with a coral bead ojime and a gold-lacquer manju netsuke with takamaki-e chrysanthemums
