Lot Essay

This pair of candlesticks and the following lot relate to work by the 'Cut Glass Manufacturer' to George III, John Blades, of Ludgate Hill, who was established in 1770. A pair of candelabra with similar baluster shafts and ormolu branches is illustrated in J. Bourne and V. Brett, Lighting in the Domestic Interior, London, 1991, p. 170, fig. 571.
