A PAIR OF .65 SILVER-MOUNTED MADRID-LOCK HOLSTER PISTOLS
Circa 1730
With two-stage barrels stamped on each breech with two crowned gold-lined marks of A.P. Esteva of Barcelona (Neue Støckel 7368 and 7369) and with ten smaller silver-filled decorative marks, the girdles turned and chiselled in low relief, scroll engraved tangs, engraved flat bevelled locks each with crowned brass-lined stamp of Agi Deop, carved and moulded highly figured walnut full stocks (one fore-end tip damaged), full silver mounts in the French taste partly engraved with foliage and including pierced side-plates cast and chased in relief and involving a Classical profile bust, faceted pommels and ramrod-pipes, the former each with grotesque mask cap, and cast and chased escutcheons each engraved with owner's arms and with a coronet above, horn fore-end caps (one damaged), and horn-tipped ramrods (one incomplete)
