In silver-gilt, the top in the form of an eagle within a crowned wreath with the bee below, the lower shank plain, together with the correct tassels with bullions unconfined, suspended from a bow coloured gold and light green

The Key, with its ornate bow and tassel, was (and in many cases remains) the distinctive emblem of the office of Chamberlain, whose principal duty was to arrange and control access to the Sovereign.
