Lot Essay

Lion assis No2 was first offered in Barye's 1857 catalogue, along with its pendant, Lion au serpent No2. As with Lion assis No1, lifetime épreuves are rare and far outnumbered by posthumous casts bearing the 'AD' and 'asterisk' cachet of the Delafontaine foundry.
