Lot Essay
Dating from 1843 (the plaster being one of the last edited works to bear a date), Loup tenant un cerf à la gorge was offered in Besse's 1844 catalogue (as Cerf et loup), and continued to appear in all of Barye's subsequent catalogues. Despite this long period of edition, Poletti and Richarme estimate the number of lifetime épreuves to be no more than thirty. After 1876, the model was edited by Barbedienne in greater numbers.
