A French ormolu and lapis lazuli-mounted picture frame Circa 1875
Rectangular, set with glazed bevelled corners and centred by an oval, surmounted by a scrolling lapis lazuli panelled pediment centred by the coat-of-arms for Giacomo Antonelli, flanked by cherub and foliage-headed volutes, on two pad feet, with 'A'-shaped hinged support to the reverse

Lot Essay
Cardinal Giacomo Antonelli (d. 1876), whose arms this frame bears, held several important posts during the long pontificate of Pope Pius IX, among them Minister of Finance, and later Secretary of State.
