Iran, 6th-8th century
Of tall attenuated baluster form with rounded shoulder and slightly raised mouth on short spreading foot, the body with four applied bands of indented patterning, four applied joined loop handles around the mouth, covered with a turquoise glaze, light overall silvery-white iridescence, intact

Lot Essay

A very similar tall storage jar was offered in these Rooms 15 October 2002, lot 25. The present example, while lacking the surface decoration of that one, has a more even turquoise glaze.
