Lot Essay

A larger turquoise glazed storage jar with very similar decoration, dated to the 7th/8th century, is published by Wilkinson (Charles K.: Iranian Ceramics, New York, 1963, no.17). Another comparable example, excavated at Susa, is now in the Louvre Museum, Paris (Lane, A.: Early Islamic Pottery, London, 1947, pl.2A).
