Lot Essay

A Safavid glass bottle of a very similar green colour and with similar slight striations in the tall neck is in the Hermitage Museum, St. Petersburg (Loukonine, Vladimir and Ivanov, Anatoli: L'Art Persan, Bournemouth, 1995, no.258, p.249). The moulded melon-shaped body is well attested in pottery of the 17th century, but not previously in glass.
