WANLI SIX-CHARACTER MARK WITHIN A DOUBLE CIRCLE AND OF THE PERIOD (1573-1619)

Strongly potted, the domed cover is pierced and painted in bright underglaze-blue with a central floral medallion enclosed by a square cartouche with conch shells at the corners, dividing four lotus pond scenes, all within a double-line border, the rounded sides with four sinuous dragons chasing 'flaming pearls' above a composite floral scroll, repeated on the box where the interior is partitioned into seven compartments (tiny glaze chip to rim repaired on box)
