QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY

The sides of the lacquer box inset with soapstone panels carved in low relief with scenes of a lotus pond below flowering and fruiting trees and birds in flight, the white jade panel to the top applied with soapstone and lacquer appliques with gilt details to depict a procession of figures including attendants and musicians before a scholar riding on a water buffalo within a border inset with jadeite beads (minor losses and repairs)
5 1/4 in. (13.5 cm.) wide
