The cup is modelled as half a peach growing from a knotted branch formed as the handle, naturalistically detailed with nodules and split wood, with thinner twigs issuing leaves that wrap around the cup and a cluster of three smaller fruit supporting the base of the receptacle, with an inscription under the mouth rim reading, Yaochi jieshi handian chuanshang, 'A perpetual vessel made from Yaochi for the Han Palace', and with the maker's name, Zhao Yu

Lot Essay
Yaochi refers to the pond where, according to legend, peaches of immortality were grown in the land of the Daoist immortals. The name Zhao Yu does not appear to have been published.
