A GEORGE III MAHOGANY SERPENTINE CHEST
The moulded serpentine-fronted rectangular top above four graduated serpentine-fronted drawers, the top drawer originally with divisions, flanked by rounded angles and with serpentine sides, on a moulded plinth and ogee-shaped rounded bracket feet, inscribed in blue chalk to the reverse '3035', with Norman Adams label, the gilt lacquered-brass acanthus-wrapped carrying-handles, patera backplates and escutcheons with C-scrolls and stylised rockwork all apparently original, with one key

Frederick Poke was one of several distinguished collectors of English furniture advised by the furniture historian R. W. Symonds and his collection formed the basis of several articles by Symonds, published in The Connoisseur from 1939-1942 (C. Streeter & M. Barker, 'A Bibliography of Publications by Robert Wemyss Symonds', Furniture History, 1975, pp. 88-107).
Lot 149 in this sale was also in the Poke collection.
