AN EAST ROMAN GOLD GRANULATED PENDANT
1ST-2ND CENTURY A.D.
Composed of a hollow boxed disc set with central cornelian within rows of beaded wire and granular decoration, four conical bosses project from the sides of the disc, below it are three loops from which hang three wire pendants each strung with a pearl and granulated bead, the suspension loop above has granular decoration also, the back of the disc with repoussé bird figure; and a Roman or Byzantine gold animal pendant composed of a crescent-shaped ring decorated with five applied granules on each side, with a ridged suspension loop, below hangs a smaller pendant in the form of a crouching feline animal on a small pedestal, 4th-6th Century A.D.
