With their stylised pomegranates and acanthus-spray headed cabriole legs, these fauteuils are stylistically close to the oeuvre of Michel Cresson (maître in 1740). The youngest son of the menuisier Jean Cresson and brother of Louis, Michel Cresson worked in the rue de Cléry Au Gros Chapelet and supplied seat-furniture to the prince de Condé at both the Palais-Bourbon and Chantilly.

A closely related pair is illustrated in P. Kjellberg, Le Mobilier Français du XVIIIe Siècle, Paris, 1989, p.210, fig. A.
