A pair of Sèvres style gilt-metal-mounted oviform vases and domed covers
Late 19th century, the covers with imitation Sèvres interlaced L marks
Each painted by Maxant (?) with a Watteauesque scene depicting two lovers seated beneath a tree with putti in the skies above, within a shaped oval gilt-edged cartouche, above gilt tied foliate sprigs, signed, beneath trophies within an oval cartouche gilt with tied foliate sprigs, the reverse with two putti amongst clouds within a similar cartouche, reserved on a ground painted with a roseheads amongst foliage within a diaper-pattern of foliate sprigs, with gilt-metal pinecone finial, rim and square base applied with rosettes, trophies, and tied branches (minor rubbing to gilding)
