Lot Essay

William IV Henry Friso, Prince of Orange-Nassau, son of John William Friso, Prince of Orange-Nassau and Maria Louisa of Hesse-Kassel, was a grandson of Henry Casimir II of Nassau-Dietz and Henrietta Amalia of Anhalt Dessau (see lot 62). He married King George II's daughter Anne, Princess Royal, in 1734.
A very similar enamel, certainly by the same hand, is illustrated in the exhibition catalogue The Monarchy in Portrait Miniatures from Elizabeth I to Queen Victoria, London, D. S. Lavender (Antiques) Ltd., 1993, no. 71.
